Ok, your bank account may not be quite similar to the ones of Jeff Bezos, but you can still visit the same places that the founder of Amazon, and one of the richest man in the world, discovered when he was on vacations in Portugal, last April. How? First of all you have to find your way to Comporta.
Head to Comporta
If you are looking for paradise on heart this is the place. Magnificent never-ending beaches with thin sand and crystal waters, still few people and very good food. What more can you ask? Ok, you have plenty mosquitoes when the sun goes down, but nothing that a good repellent can’t solve.
Comporta is a region located 90 min drive from Lisbon, between Alcácer do Sal and Grândola, in Alentejo coast line, and it’s part of the nature reserve of the Sado Estuary. And it’s right between scenic pine forests that you will find little villas where you can rest from everything. No wonder Christian Louboutin or designer Philippe Starck fall in love with this piece of paradise and have their own houses here.
Where to stay
In 2014 Sublime Comporta was the first hotel to open in Comporta. Since then, a few others have followed with a décor rustic-chic, with modern confort and villas with private pools, surrounded by nature.
But if you fancy arquitecture, Cabanas do Rio is a good option. Renovated by architect Manuel Aires de Mateus, every element of the rebuild respected the memory and simplicity of the original structures of two fishing huts.
How to get there
Head south, pass 25 Abril bridge to the other side, take highway A2 until Alcácer do Sal and then follow the signs to Comporta.

Back to Lisbon
Once in Lisbon, Jeff Bezos and his girlfriend visited Lisbon Cathedral, better known as Sé de Lisboa, the oldest and most important church in the city, located downtown and on your way to Alfama. And It is impossible not to come across the Cathedral, whether you go up to the Castle, take the 28, cross the river or contemplate the city from the various viewpoints facing east.
Supposedly built over the Lisbon mosque at the time of the Christian Reconquest, the works were completed at the beginning of the 13th century and is predominantly Romanesque in style. It has survived several natural disasters, like the great earthquake of 1755, which left part of the religious edifice in ruins.

Se continua à procura do paraíso na Terra não tem de procurar mais, este é o lugar. Magníficas praias a perder de vista com areia fina e águas cristalinas, ainda com poucas pessoas e comida deliciosa. O que mais pode querer? Ah ok, não faltam melgas e mosquitos, especialmente ao final da tarde, mas nada que um bom repelente não resolva.
Comporta é uma região a 90 minutos de carro de Lisboa, entre Alcácer do Sal e Grândola, na costa alentejana, e que faz parte da reserva natural do Estuário do Sado. E é entre pitorescos pinhais que se encontram pequenas vilas escondidas onde pode descansar longe de tudo. Não é à toa que Christian Louboutin ou o designer Philippe Starck se apaixonaram por esse pedaço do paraíso e têm suas próprias casas aqui.
Onde ficar
Em 2014 Sublime Comporta foi o primeiro hotel inaugurado na Comporta. Desde então, seguiram-se outros projectos com uma decoração rústico-chic, com conforto e vilas com piscinas privadas rodeadas pela natureza.
Mas se é um apaixonado por arquitectura, Cabanas do Rio é uma opção a ter em conta. Com renovação a cargo do arquitecto Manuel Aires de Mateus, todos os elementos da reconstrução respeitaram a memória e simplicidade das estruturas originais das duas cabanas de pesca.

De volta a Lisboa
Uma vez em Lisboa, Jeff Bezos e a namorada visitaram a Catedral de Lisboa, mais conhecida como Sé de Lisboa, a igreja mais antiga e importante da cidade, bem no centro da cidade e a caminho de Alfama. É impossível não se cruzar com a Sé, quer suba ao Castelo, quer apanhe o 28, atravesse o rio ou contemple a cidade a partir dos vários miradouros virados a este.
Supostamente construída sobre a mesquita lisboeta na época da Reconquista Cristã, as obras foram concluídas no início do século XIII e tem um estilo predominantemente românico. Sobreviveu a vários desastres naturais, como o grande terremoto de 1755, que deixou parte do edifício religioso em ruínas.
