In Lisbon and need a car? Try carsharing

The net of city transports in Lisbon allows you to discover its secrets, whether you take the subway, bus, tram or the elevators. And for those people like me, who don’t have a car, one of these transports will take you there. But what about those days when you need a car because you need to transport something, to be somewhere fast or just because you just miss driving a car?

Well, now we have City Drive, a carsharing system that allows you to drive a car and just pay for the time you use it. Need a car for 30 minutes? That’s what you will pay. Or for 3 hours? You name it. How is that work? Well, we just have to download the app, make the registration (don’t forget to apply your identification and drivers licence or it doesn’t work, trust me!) and see on the map where’s the nearest car (will appear orange). Go there, make the reservation, insert your Open Sesame pin in the app to open the doors and that it. You have a car just for you!

In my case, I found a Skoda Fabia parked in Chiado, made the reservation and drove all the way to Praça de Espanha. Because I drove in the morning with traffic jam it took me 25 minutes to go to Praça de Espanha, but the car was very comfortable, easy to drive and the experience was quite enjoyable.

Before you start your trip the app is going to ask you if everything is ok with the car and if there’s something you want to report, like something is broken. In my case everything was ok. In the app you can also see if the car has enough fuel. Oh, and that’s another thing that you don’t have to worry: all the cars have fuel so you don’t need to worry. But if, for instance, you have to refuel it, send the ticket to City Drive and the amount is going to be transferred into your account.

When you arrive to your destiny you have two options: finish the reservation or just close the doors, take the key with you and the car is yours for the all day. But pay attention: the car will be parked, but you continuing to pay for it. Only when you finish the reservation you will stop pay for the car.

Where can I go?

City Drive divides Lisbon in several areas: the green and the yellow. In the green ones you can finish the reservation without costs, the yellow after 12 hours of ‘abandoned’ the car it will cost 10€.

Can I go to Sintra or Costa da Caparica to the beach?

Apart the fact that it’s a service thought to be used in the city centre you can go to the beach or visit Sintra ou Cabo da Roca. But remember that you can’t finish the reservation out of Lisbon, so you will pay for the hours you have the car in your possession.

Where do I park?

City Drive is friends with Emel (company responsible for paid parking in Lisbon), which means you can park in places where normally you would have to take a ticket, but in there case is free. You don’t have to worry about it. Just don’t park underground, it’s not allowed.

How much will it costs?

0,29€ per minute driving during the first hour and after that it’s 0,25€ per minute. On stand by its 0,29€ per minute. One hour will cost 14.90€. The maximum price for one day is 69,90€ and you will have 200km included per day.

Cars have Via Verde?

No, you will have to pay in you drive in a highway 

How do I pay?

You can use your credit card in the app or you charge your account with the amount you want in ATM’s.

Until the end of march, City Drive has discounts for the first 3 months.

Gosto do conceito de carsharing. Dá para traduzir para perceber como funciona? Dá!

A rede de transportes de Lisboa permite descobrir todos os segredos da cidade, quer seja de metro, autocarro, eléctrico ou elevador. E para aquelas pessoas como eu, que não têm carro, um destes meios de transporte permite chegar ao destino. Mas e aqueles dias em que precisamos de um carro para transportar alguma coisa, para ir a algum lugar rapidamente ou apenas porque temos saudades de conduzir um carro?

Bem, para esses casos agora temos a City Drive, um Sistema de carsharing que permite conduzir um carro e pagar apenas pelo tempo que o usarmos. Precisa de um carro por 30 minutos? É isso que vai pagar. Ou durante três horas? É para já. Como funciona? Bem, apenas temos de fazer o download da app, fazer o registo (não se esqueçam de fazer o upload do bilhete de identidade e da carta de condução, ou não vai funcionar, acreditem em mim!) e descobrir no mapa onde é que está o carro mais perto (que vai aparecer a laranja no mapa). Vamos até lá, fazemos a reserva, inserimos o pin Abre-te Sésamo na app e as portas abrem-se como por magia. Temos um carro só para nós.

No meu caso encontrei o Skoda Fabia no Chiado, fiz a reserve e conduzi até à Praça de Espanha. Como fui de manhã e apanhei trânsito demorei 25 minutos a chegar, mas o carro é confortável, fácil de conduzir e a experiência foi bastante agradável.

Antes de começar a viagem, a app vai perguntar se está tudo ok com o carro ou se há alguma anomalia a assinalar. No meu caso estava tudo em perfeitas condições. A app também diz se o carro tem gasolina suficiente. Ah pois, isso é outra coisa que não é necessário preocupar-se: todos os carros estão abastecidos de combustível por isso não tem de passar na bomba de gasolina. Se por algum acaso tiver de abastecer, pode enviar o recibo para a City Drive e o valor é transferido para a sua conta na app para poder usar em viagens.

Assim que chega ao destino tem duas opções: finaliza a reserva ou apenas fecha as portas, leva a chave consigo e o carro é seu durante o tempo que quiser. Atenção: o carro vai estar estacionado, mas o serviço continua a ser cobrado. Apenas quando termina a reserva é que deixa de pagar.

Até onde posso ir?

A City Drive divide Lisboa em várias zonas: a verde e a amarela. A verde é onde pode terminar as reservas sem custos e na amarela se ‘abandonar’ o carro por mais de 12 horas tem um custo de 10€.

Posso ir a Sintra ou à Costa da Caparica?

Poder pode, mas o serviço foi pensado para ser usado no centro da cidade. Ainda assim pode visitar Sintra ou o Cabo da Roca ou ir até à praia. Lembre-se apenas que não pode terminar a reserva fora de Lisboa, o que significa que vai estar a pagar enquanto o carro estiver em sua posse.

Onde estaciono?

A City Drive é tu cá tu lá com a Emel, o que significa que pode estacionar em todos os locais onde normalmente teria de pagar parquímetro, sendo que neste caso não vai pagar nada. Só não pode estacionar em parques subterrâneos.

Quanto é que me vai custar?

0,29€ por minuto a conduzir e o mesmo valor por minuto em stand by. Após uma hora de utilização, o preço baixa para 0,25€ por minuto. Uma hora tem um custo de 14.90€ e o valor máximo por dia é de 69,90€. Tem 200km incluídos por dia.

 Como é que pago?

Pode associar o cartão de crédito à sua conta ou carregar o valor que definir numa caixa de multibanco através de uma referência.
